“WHY DOES THE WORLD NEED DIPLOMAT ARTISTS?” By, SUSAN SACIRBEY

Posted on at

Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, Shakira, Charlize Theron, George Clooney, Michael Douglas, and Danny Glover are familiar names to many star worshipers of popular culture. But these individuals and many more not on this list share more than a celebrity moniker with an increasingly savvy, social-conscious generation. The classification, “Diplomat Artist”, was first coined by Ambassador Muhamed (Mo) Sacirbey. You may by now be familiar with his face and voice from the DiplomaticallyIncorrect.org umbrella of film report products, UNTV Interviews, and Blog Reports, by "Ambassador Mo". In 1997, Ambassador Mo brought Bono and U2 to Sarajevo to perform in concert. This watershed performance was a catalyst in the healing process toward normalcy for a country torn apart by war and ethnic cleansing. So who and what is a “Diplomat Artist”? Ambassador Mo defines the term and platform: "Diplomat-Artist," a new series opens up the evolving convergence of the world of diplomacy and art, popular culture. If not the performance talent of an artist, the diplomat increasingly must be endowed with the sensibilities of an artist. Similarly, the artist seeks inspiration beyond the bounds of stage and canvas and perhaps contributes to a broader social and/or global goal. Of course, the contributions of artists have not always been for the "good." Even today, the artist can be exploited, willingly or not, to promote exclusionary agendas, xenophobia, fear or ultra-nationalism verging into fascism. Nonetheless, the rising generation of diplomat-artists gives hope that constructive contributions, from broadening perspectives to awareness to call to action far exceed the appeal of art for hate or fear.” From DiplomaticallyIncorrect.org we have provided a sampling of “Diplomat Artists” whose causes and passions mirror life’s most important issues and commonalities spanning generations and all humanity. Although the term is new, the concept is not. Witness two great, classic Goodwill Ambassadors for UNICEF – Audrey Hepburn and Peter Ustinov. Their commitment and passion for disadvantaged children around the world is legend. So, why does the World need “Diplomat Artists”? I encourage you to become a Face Book fan of Diplomat Artist so you can provide me your feedback. To summarize one fan’s comments regarding Angelina Jolie, she felt that celebs were using the media to their personal advantage and self-promotion. Given that so many causes have become cliché and altruism of its sponsors’ message diluted, I respect that fan’s comments and position. On the opposite spectrum, commenting on the first fan’s comment: (unedited) “UN good will ambassadors take social issues and bring them out in the open. What would you have known about refugees in Afghanistan without her visit there? Also, you might not know her, but she certainly does not need to take advantage of a good will mission to promote her own image.” I could not have presented my opinion or the rationale for DiplomatArtist.com any more concisely. I’ll close with that and what will be the first of a continuing series of NEWS Blog Reports on “Diplomat Artists.” ---Susan Sacirbey My Personal Selection of Film Reports that might be of interest: “Angelina Jolie/Libya & Ivory Coast Refugees” diplomaticallyincorrect.org/films/movie/angelina-jolielibyaivory-coast-refugees/25240 “Shakira in Bangladesh” diplomaticallyincorrect.org/films/movie/shakira-in-bangladesh/25802 “Danny Glover to Amazon” diplomaticallyincorrect.org/films/movie/danny-glover-to-amazon/22773 Web TV Channels: www.diplomaticallyincorrect.org www.DiplomatArtist.com humanitarianwebtv.com/ Facebook: Find us @ Diplomatically Incorrect and Diplomat Artist Twitter: @ DiplomaticallyX
