Woman stripped and beaten in Mumbai

INDIA: Female conductor was stripped and beaten by a male passenger on the outskirts of Mumbai.

 

According to the media reports, the female conductor on a state transport bus was dragged out of the vehicle, stripped and beaten by a male passenger.

It is reported that the incident took place on a bus which runs between Kalyan and Panvel in the Thane district, at around 8:30 am while the 34-year-old conductor was on her first trip. Initially, none of the other passengers helped the conductor.

The accused, 30-year-old Abhishek Singh has been arrested by the police. He has been booked under sections 353, 354, 504 and 323 of the Indian Penal Code.

The victim told media reporters that:

“I asked him to get off the bus and he pulled me by my feet and dragged me off the bus and made me lie down on the road. He then ripped my clothes and began kicking me. There was another bus behind us, and the conductor of that bus tried to save me; he then beat her up too. This incident occurred at the bus stop, when the bus was stationary and passengers were boarding the bus, but none of them came to my rescue.”

He was arrested and charged under sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the IPC.
