Younis Khan makes the history

After becoming Pakistan’s all-time leading Test runs-scorer in the opening match of the series, Younis Khan added his name to the record books once again with a third-consecutive century against Australia.

Younis is the fourth Pakistani to achieve the milestone, and the first since Mohammad Yousuf managed the feat against West Indies in November 2006.

The other Pakistanis to have managed three in three are Zaheer Abbas (1982-83) and Mudassar Nazar (1983).

It has been almost 90 years since a batsman scored three consecutive hundreds against Australia – the great Herbert Sutcliffe did it in the Ashes in Australia in the summer of 1924-25.

Last week, Australia’s David Warner was another to add his name to the elite group, becoming the 35th player to make three straight hundreds.

Remarkably, Younis is the third player this year to reach the mark, with Sri Lankan run machine Kumar Sangakkara having done so  incredibly, for the third time in his career – with two hundreds against Bangladesh in February, and one against England in June.

In just his 93rd match, 36-year-old Younis now has 27 Test hundreds, equalling Michael Clarke (107 Tests), the recently retired Graeme Smith (117) and Allan Border (156).

He is also closing in on becoming just the third Pakistani to score 8,000 Test runs, after the legendary Javed Miandad (8,832) and Inzamam-ul-Haq (8,830).
