Domestic Violence against Women in Afghanistan

Posted on at

Violence against women is wide spread in Afghanistan. The lack of education and importantly the women rights which is mentioned in Islam. We are far away from understanding  our women needs and desires  and in the process their right gets violated.Islam is a great religion of love and peace and the rights of women are described very clearly.

There is a great Quote from the sayings of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) that "Education is compulsory for every muslim man and women".There is no education for women in most parts of Afghanistan due to the hard line family system which doesnt allow women to go out from their houses to get her basic right of Education.

Islam has given every right to the women to choose a spouse. The basic cultural practice in Afghanistan is that our females are taken into forced marriages which is wide spread and have seen it personally. This results in many misunderstandings and eventually the females get assaulted or even killed in some Cases.According to  a local newspaper once a women got her nose and her tongue cut with a knife and it was someone who was known to her for most of her life that was her Husband.Women are often asked to beg in public places to earn her living. The harsh reality is that we are treating them even worser than Animals.

According to UNAMA  and UNHCR Afghanistan is the worst place for women in the world. When you go through the electronic and print media ,you will see alot of cases of violence against women in most parts of Afghanistan.Forced marriages, sexual assaults, abductions, throwing acid on Women, honour killings etc.The corrupt government of Afghanistan is unable to cope with the menace of Domestic Violence against women.Local police officers gang raped a girl and they were set free by the court so what would you expect from the Judicial system of Afghanistan.

Women are mostly seen as their own property by most of the men In our culture or they are kept as sex slaves for their personal desires.Women are sold in local market like domestic animals and they often gets in to the hands of sex trafickers. You can see in local jails in Kabul where women are kept for years for the crime they never commited but were forced to do it like Rapes and killings.

Awareness compaign has to be launched in the whole Afghanistan for people to understand the basic rights of women. Basic education should be the foremost priority of every women in Afghanistan. We want the Afghan Government to take positive steps in eliminating domestic violence Against women In Afghanistan.
