FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW YORK, February 2, 2016—The international humanitarian organization Action Against Hunger, which specializes in preventing and treating deadly malnutrition in more than 45 countries around the world, has launched the first-ever International Public Health Nutrition Fellowship to recruit and train a new generation of skilled humanitarian nutrition public health professionals. The I-PHN Fellowship, as it is known, focuses on recruiting tomorrow’s global health and humanitarian leaders by bridging the gap between academia and a first-time overseas field placement in the international public health nutrition sector.  The program will equip fellows with in-demand, yet hard-to-acquire skills vital to frontline emergency nutrition field positions, and incorporates technical training, hands-on field experience, and a formalized mentorship program.

The I-PHN Fellowship is a year-long paid fellowship for post-graduate students who aim to work in the international public health nutrition sector.  This highly-competitive program will accelerate the careers of eight fellows through an intensive classroom and field-based curriculum in the management of international public health nutrition programs.  Fellows will be trained by experts in the fields of international nutrition program management and humanitarian core competencies.  At the end of the program, the eight fellows will be prepared to launch their careers as innovative leaders in the international public health and emergency nutrition sector.

“I am truly excited to announce the launch of the I-PHN Fellowship,” said Action Against Hunger’s Chief Executive Andrea Tamburini. “The Fellowship presents a unique opportunity for talented post-grads to build the real on-the-ground skills they’ll need to thrive in humanitarian contexts. The eight fellows selected will receive high-quality training and mentorship that will launch and serve them throughout their careers.”

The program is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the lead U.S. government agency that works to end extreme global poverty and enable resilient, democratic societies to realize their potential. It is implemented by Action Against Hunger in partnership with fellow international non-governmental organizations Concern Worldwide and International Medical Corps.
