US and Nato troops are due to leave Afghanistan at the end of 2014. Negotiations are under process to make sure some troops stay in Afghanistan to help Afghan National army to fight against insurgents but that has not been decided yet.

Huge responsibilities lie on the shoulder of Afghan national army to counter terrorism and protect Afghanistan against insurgent attacks after withdrawal of international troops.US and Britain have offered their support to Afghanistan after 2014 as well to fight against insurgents.

Afghan national army has round about 200,000 active soldiers armed with latest weapons and expected to reach 260,000 by end of 2015.Following US led invasion and removing Taliban in 2001, military of Afghanistan was reformed by Nato military alliance.Fingers were raised on their capability of fighting independently against terrorism but they have proved they can operate independently and results are quite encouraging.

Huge investment has been made on training and recruitment of Afghan national army. They are sent to military academies of different countries to get advanced knowledge.India has been seen as major supporter training Afghan national army in their own military academies. The training is focused on capability enhancement of Afghan national army to carry out possible actions against insurgents that are spread over different part of Afghanistan.

Afghanistan-US Bilateral security agreement is still in negotiation phase but expectations are it will be signed very soon. With this security agreement, specific number of US troop will remain in Afghanistan and they will support Afghan national army to carry out operations. At the moment, Afghan national army still have to prove that they are capable enough to carry out major operations without support of US troops.
