"The Couple in the Cave" is episode two of season six of Bones, the forensic drama television series loosely based on the novels and life of anthropologist Kathy Reichs. In this episode, a couple of skeletons are found in a cave in a national park.

The Skeletons in the Cave

A couple are out hiking in a national park and the woman is really not enjoying it. She is convinced that they are going to get lost and die out there - and also seems to have a pretty sketchy idea as to how directions actually work. When it starts to rain, they take shelter in a cave, with the woman still insisting that they are going to die. At which point, they discover two sets of skeletal remains, in each others' arms.

The Victim is George Clooney?

The victims are a man and a woman and have been bludgeoned to death. The woman is quickly identified, especially as her boss had filed a missing persons report. The man proves harder to identify; the skull was in poorer condition and Angela's reconstruction looks like George Clooney (and anytime people are asked if they recognise the man from the picture, they say yes - identifying it as Clooney). Solving the crime is probably going to require finding out who George Clooney's clone actually is. Progress in this results in a couple who seem to have very little in common.

A Coincidental Attack

There had been a previous attack in the park some time back, with a squatter beating a camper to death. Said squatter has now been released from jail, two days prior to the death of the man and woman. Which looks suspiciously coincidental, too much so given how early this is discovered. He is mentally ill and was released because his psychiatrist felt that his illness was under control. With the mentally ill person being ruled out, there is no obvious suspect. A connection between the two is finally found, which explains the relationship.

Relationship Matters

Booth's new girlfriend, a reporter he met in Afghanistan, and who appeared in the previous episode. has accepted a post in the Washington press office to be nearer to him. Sweets - whose own relationship with Daisy is currently weird - keeps pressing Booth about his new relationship. Clark has returned, having been passed over for promotion in Chicago, and ends up having a rather atypical outburst.

No More Mastodon

At least the mastodon that was found in the lab at the end of the previous episode, "The Mastodon in the Room", seems to have been removed.
