Communication gap in private hospitals of the city due to outsider nurses.

Posted on at

Most of the private hospitals in Calcutta have to employ nurses from outside the state as Bengal doesn’t produce nurses to meet even half their requirement of nurses and the matter of concern is that majority of them are known to have difficulty communicating in Bengali or Hindi. Some of them can speak a smattering of Hindi but the accent is so different that none can understand a single word. So, not only the patients but also the attending doctors are victims of miscommunication with these outsiders and the problem often increases manifold in case of critically ill patients. So, the state government must take steps to produce more nurses within the state.
