It’s been three years since I got serious in writing a story, and letting your imagination takes charge is a fun experience.
It started because I’m not happy with my job. I mean before I became an engineer in an air-conditioning company, I’m a tired engineer in an electronics company. I mean if you have to deal with angry people in a production line, you will consider a change of career. In my room is where it all started. I promised to myself that this working table will produce the next published novel. I plan to finish my novel within a year, but so many things happened as I write my story.
I finished chapter one quickly enough. I mean I managed to churn up a partial manuscript in two weeks. Considering that I had a busy schedule, coming up with a chapter was an achievement. The next chapters followed, and I have to slow-down as I discovered some problems with the manuscript. The pacing, grammar and the story itself were problematic! I have to redo several chapters and within a year, I only finished a quarter of my novel. I mean my novel has twenty chapters, but I only got five finished!
A year later my pace picked up. As I figured out the best way to set my schedules from writing, rewriting, encoding and editing, I finished more than ten chapters. I usually write during the night, or during in our company noon break. Like I mentioned, I rewrite my story twice before encoding. I started with a rough draft and rewrite the whole thing to eliminate some errors. During encoding it became easier for me to spot plot holes and errors.
Finally I finished my novel. It is now time to submit my story to a willing publisher! That was an exciting moment, but coming up with a cover letter and a summary is a different story. A minor hitch; I been writing long prose and a summary and letter is a piece of cake. I submitted to a number of publishers and got several harsh comments and rejections.
Up to now I’m still hoping for a break. I’m back to doing flash fictions and short stories sort of to improve my writing. Maybe one day I’ll find my break, but it will be another story then.
