Heavy Lifting- A Crewing Blog

Posted on at

As I said before, anything can happen on a film shoot, crazy stuff like I said in a previous blog, or really mundane but as interesting stuff.

One of the things as a runner you may be asked to do, depending on the shoot size, is heavy lifting, moving equipment and props around, so they don't get in the way or, as I had happen recently, store them away for safe keeping.

Recently I had to help hall a desk up 5 floors, a hard job, even with 3 people and a trolley, it took forever and much physical exertion. A lift had to be commandeered and the desks had to be stood on its end and escorted up.

We did all this only to get back down and find a filing cabinet waiting for us to go to the same floor.

So why am I telling you this, well its a lesson for you guys out there, upper body strength is important but a strong back doubly so. lift from the knees as you will have to on set.

So don't let it come as a surprise when you have to move a desk up 5 floors, its just how film making is.

Thanks for reading guys, I'll see you soon.
