EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO

KNOW ABOUT (YouTube)

YouTube was found early in February 2005, by three PayPal employees : Steven Chen, Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim. Hurley joined the other founders after he read an article about the starting of YouTube in some magazine. Hurley emailed them about a job, after which he was brought on to design the logo for the company which is still used today in 2016. Don't know what might come better next in 2017! Interestingly, the initial seed money required for the startup came from when eBay (the super online store) bought Paypal and provided bonuses for the three guys. When it started to become popular, The choice of the name YouTube.COM became a huge problem for a similarly named website called Utube.com which was working as the same as YouTube want to start their work. The site owner of Universal tube filed a lawsuit against YouTube.com in November, 2006. after being regularly overloaded by people looking for the site, Universal tube has since changed the name of their website as Utubeonlne.com which is still working today  Chen and Karim studied computer science together at the University of Illinois at Urbana Campaign. YouTube's initial headquarters was situated above a pizzeria and Japanese restaurant in San Mateo, California.

YouTube Growth

During the summer of 2006, YouTube was one of the fastest growing sites on the Web, with more than 65,000 new videos uploaded and delivering 100 million video views per day in July. It was ranked the fifth most popular website on Alexa, far out-pacing even MySpace's rate of growth. YouTube entered into a marketing and advertising partnership with NBC in June 2006. On October 9, 2006, it was announced that the company would be purchased by Google for US$1.65 billion. The purchase agreement between Google and YouTube came after YouTube presented three agreements with media companies in an attempt to escape the threat of copyright-infringement lawsuits. YouTube planned to continue operating independently, with its co-founders and 67 employees working within Google. The deal to acquire YouTube was completed on November 13. At that time it was Google's second largest acquisition. Google's February 7, 2007 SEC filing revealed the breakdown of profits for YouTube's investors after the sale to Google. At the time of reporting, Chad Hurley's profit was more than $395 million while Steve Chen's profit was more than $326 million.

STATS & TRAFFIC

There are more than one billion unique users that visit YouTube every month so it's no wonder that billions of hours of video get watched daily, making YouTube the Internet's largest video hosting website, But what really makes YouTube unique is that many of the same people that are consuming the same amount of content are the same people creating it. In fact more than 300 hours of videos are uploaded to YouTube every minute. To put that into context, the amount of video uploaded to the website every month is more than the three major U.S television networks have created in the last 60 years.

While YouTube is hosted and created in the U.S, more than 80 percent of traffic that comes to the website is from outside of the U.S meaning that all of those views allow people to make a living of what they love to do, Which is making videos.

YouTube Dating Service(2005)

Not many people knew that YouTube actually started as video dating service,

originally called Tune In and Hook up, the website was heavily influenced by the website Hot or Not.

Although it operated in the same fashion, the three founders decided not to go with the dating site idea,

but decided to keep the video portion of it.

Then, two important events occurred that forever shaped what we would come to know as YouTube.
The First Event, when Karim was not able to find the infamous Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction video online, The Second Event was when Hurley and Chen were unable to share a dinner party video with friends due to email attachments limitations that still exist or may not exist today.

These two important events made the founders realize that there was a huge untapped potential for video sharing online, and they decided to fill that need.
