India is world’s largest Democracy. Although many of the people don’t know the true meaning of democracy.  The dictionary defines democracy as government by the people in which the supreme power is vest in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents by a free electoral system. In short, democracy is the institutionalization of liberty and equality before the law that any society must acquire to be properly called democratic. Democracy falls into two basic categories direct and representative. In a direct democracy, all citizens, without the intermediary of elected or appointed officials, can participate in making public decisions. The Pillars of Democracy are:

  1. Dominion of the people.
  2. Administration based upon consent of the governed.
  3. Majority rule.
  4. Minority rights.
  5. Guarantee of basic human rights.
  6. Free and fair elections.
  7. Equal Law for Everyone.
  8. Outstanding process of law.
  9. Constitutional limits on government.
  10. Social, economic, and political pluralism.
  11. Values of tolerance, simplicity, support, and compromise.

In this busy personal dominion of democratic society, people can search the promises of freedom and the errands of self-government unpressured by the potentially important hand of the state. Democracy should be in all the countries of world and everyone should take their initiative to make the world better.
