A pair of strong earthquakes today in southwestern Japan killed at least 32 people, injured about 1,500 and left hundreds of thousands without electricity or water. It is reported that a 7.3 magnitude quake shook the Kumamoto region on the southwestern island of Kyushu early Saturday which was earlier on Thursday night hit by a 6.5 magnitude quake. Scores of residents are still remaining trapped; army troops and other rescuers have been sent to the areas to save the trapped. Forecast of rainfall makes the situation further threatening.
