In the Himalayan country referred to as Nepal, the city of Kathmandu is the most recognizable and famous destination. However, this city has managed to remain famous over a period of two thousand years. The city has been documented in various scripts in the Asian region. The majority of the residents in the city are divided between two belief systems. They mostly follow the teaching of Buddha or the Hindu religion.  In ancient times, there were actually three capitals. Of these three, Kathmandu was one and Bhaktapur and Lalitpur were the other two. The valley surrounding Kathmandu was also referred to as the main region of Nepal by historians.

Today the city is the entrance when it comes to entering Nepal. Kathmandu has been ranked among the top destinations for tourism in Asia. It has held this position for a number of years in the Asian Subcontinent. The city is the main economic and tourist hub of the country. While most of the residents speak the local dialect that is Nepali, the advent of tourism has also led to the propagation of the English language in the city. The most sought after time for tourists is during the various religious festivities. This is the time when the city comes alive.
