Kids at Risk

Kids at risk in the U.S. have reach epic numbers. Today more than 200,000 children under 18 are living on the streets without adult supervision, protection or guidance.

It's hard to imagine in this country where we could have gone so wrong. How do these children slip through the cracks of our solid foundation be recognized as one of the greatest countries in the world.

I shutter to think of the funding ($485 billion including military assistance in 2012) is given to other countries while at home we have major problems not addressed. There are nearly 13 million (that's 4% of the US population) on welfare. There are more than 16 million children alone who live in food deprived homes and 1 in 6 (50 million) of the entire population are malnourished due to a lack of food.

We now rank third from last in industrialized countries in education with California ranking 47th from the bottom.

In this land so great how is any of this possible? We believe we are the greatest nation yet only 3 countries have higher death rates in infants due to malnutrition than the United States.

Our glut and greed shock most of the world. Our lack of concern for children especially is a complete embarrassment to this once great nation.

What can you do? Volunteer for an organization who addresses these issues. Speak at organizations such as Rotary, Lions, Kiwanis, Soroptimist Clubs and churches to inspire those who have the means to make a difference. Become an advocate for these children who have no means to speak for themselves.

Create a legacy to give more meaning to your life. Involve others who have the time and innovation to make an impact.

Be the change we need to see.
