Kiwanis Club

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time. It was organized in Detroit, Michigan. On January 21, 1915 the group received a charter from the state of Michigan that marks the birth of of Kiwanis. It was defined as  “an organization for men” in the constitution and adopted in 1924, but after several years of debate and endless support, women's membership received a triumphant approval. The name “Kiwanis” comes from an American Indian language of the Detroit area, “Nunc Kee-wanis,” which means, “we trade” or “we share our talents.”

It became international with the organization of the Kiwanis club of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, in 1916. At first, membership is limited to the United States and Canada only not until 1962 when worldwide expansion has been approved.

A friend of mine introduced me with the club and asked if I wanted to join them. So I did. Few months after joining the club. Kiwanis Talisay chapter held a one day medical and dental mission in Lagtang, Talisay City.

It was such a beneficial event. I remember one mother during the registration who thanked me that the event was held in their are because her 3 year old daughter has been sick for 3 days already. She never stop thanking me while I was writing down her daughters information.

That experience is one of the many that I can never forget. Seeing those people who fall in line under the heat of the sun just to be treated from the sickness they had or any member of their families. It made me realize that I am still fortunate that I live a good life. Such a fulfilling event. Wish I can do this again one day.
