Kiyomizu Dera

Kiyomizu Dera is an independent Buddhist temple in eastern Kyoto. This temple is a part of the historic monuments of the ancient Kyoto. This was found in the early Heian period. Not a single nail in used in the entire structure of the temple. This Buddhist temple has received its name from the waterfall that is situated within the complex, which runs off the nearby hills. The word Kiyomizu itself means clean or pure water. The two most famous places are the main hall and the Kiyomizu stage. The main hall of the temple is designated as a national treasure.

Along with these, the temple also has many other cultural properties. The stage was built using special method. Standing at this location and watching the city center of Kyoto is a magnificent view. The cherry blossoms and fresh verdure enhance the beauty of Kiyomizu Dera in spring and colored leaves in autumn. It is well known as a landscape that represents Kyoto. It would be our pleasure if you took the time to visit and deepen your understanding of the Japanese culture and spirit. This temple occupies an excellent location on a steep hill in eastern Kyoto. Beneath the main hall is a waterfall, where three channels of water drop into a pond.
