Korean Drama, why I am into it.

"There is nothing wrong with entertainment. As some psychiatrist put it, we all build castles in the air. The problem comes when we try to live in them". --Neil Postman

My way of being entertained and get away from the stress of work, and also a diversion is watching drama on line, preferably Korean Dramas.

What is Korean Drama?

Korean drama or K-drama is a televised drama in Korean language, made in South Korea.

But why K-drama and not Philippine dramas?

With such a great wave of this trend, I have few reasons that I think is justifiable, and some fellow Korean drama fans out there might agree with my opinion. And here are my reasons.

1. Most dramas has just around 16 episodes, that with two episode in a week, it will just last for about two months. It just also means that the phasing or the flow of the story is fast, boredom is not on it.

Note: The Korean Drama that i watched that has the most number of episodes is "Miss Mermaid" or "Irene" in Philippines TV (GMA 7) and it has 256 episodes.

2. More than just the "kilig" of the "oppas", I love to watch Korean dramas because of its variety. I just don't watch those that has a romantic theme, I have watched Dramas that is about solving crimes, politics, corruption, and some are just put me on the edge of the seat.

Note: The last drama that I watched that made realized how corruption can go is "Secret Forest" or "Stranger" and it has 16 episodes.

3. They stick with the story line. This might be the reason why most viewers stopped watching Philippine dramas, characters that is already died then next thing they knew, this character is ALIVE! Another thing is, they add more characters, making the story longer and it will leave more questions rather than getting answers, chaotic to be more precise and honest.

4. Not all are happy ending, I mean, when the actor/actress has to die in the end, it has to die. Just like that. It may sound not nice but much better to have the character that has a terminal disease, impossible to be treated to die. More realistic for me.

Example of this is the first Korean drama that I watched, "Endless Love:Autumn in My heart". I cried like river when Jenny has to die.

What else in the Korean drama that makes me go crazy into it?

Watching Korean dramas showed me something, I can stare into those "oppas", get the story and read the English subtitles, that is "cool" talent for me. Yes, even just watching on my phone(thanks to those who upload the videos on Facebook)

Aside from the above mentioned, the historical dramas can make you understand more of their culture more than my addiction to "Kimchi" and Korean ramen. That I admit, I have been buying "kimchi" on grocery stores and ordering Korean ramen on line.

This is my latest food addiction.

Who can not notice their cinematography? If anyone have seen or watched "Goblin", you may have been "wowed', or amazed with it.

Are there any Korean dramas that I can recommend?

Before the trend, I have watched, cried and fell in love with some Korean dramas. But there are dramas that I never get tired of watching it over and over again and I will be recommending for those who hasn't tried watching any Korean Dramas.

Here are my top five:

1. Dae Jang Geum or Jewel in the Palace. The drama might have 54 episodes but it is worth it.

2. Endless Love. This Korean drama has four set. The four set covers the four seasons: Autumn in my heart, Winter Sonata, Summer Scent and Spring Waltz.

3. Queen Seondeok. This is another Historical drama and it has 62 episodes. Yes, another long drama but another worth to watch.

4. Descendants of the Sun. The drama that started the Song Song Couple and soon both will be real Husband and Wife. There is more than jus the "kilig" in here, the story is great. It has 16 episodes.

5. Strong woman Do Bong Soon. Okay, another "kilig" drama but it tells us about using our "gift" properly and it will give us prosperity. It has 16 episodes.

My "fondness" to Korean dramas has a reason, I have mentioned the above. It is all started more than ten years ago, and I can say that I didn't join or have just watched it to be in the "bandwagon". It also doesn't mean I don't "patronize" Philippine dramas or "teleseryes", I do watch them and stopped watching a certain drama if the story have gone circles, I can not take such thing. And also, I don't watch every Korean Dramas that is being shown, I  just choose that I think has a great story line.

Here is a video where you can also check some of the Korean dramas and see why they have got a high tv ratings.

Hope you will check some of the dramas that I have mentioned, and enjoy and be ready for some tissue! :)
