MY FIRST DAY AT CRITICAL THINKING CLASS:

Posted on at

Critical thinking subject was completely new for me. I was wondering about the subject, what is it about, what sir is going to teach us, will I be able to score at least 50 in critical thinking many questions were running in my mind. I might have got such question in my mind because I was learning critical thinking for the first time and I have keen interest in the psychology so I might have been indulged with such thinking. Suddenly, our lecturer entered into the class room and then everything was just a history.

During the first phase of the seminar, sir spoke about the origin of the caste system in Nepal. One of the most fascinating thing about the caste system in Nepal was your caste (sir name) was kept as per the work you do. If you are warrior then your caste will be “chettri” and if your dad is a saint then he will be “Bahun”. Then gradually our lecturer turned his lecture into the religion of Gautam Buddha. He gave us slight concept regarding what is enlightenment. Since he was taking about spirituality cum way of thinking I was willing to ask many questions regarding life, death, love and hatred but my classmate were also there so I hesitated, now I wish I have asked those questions. If I had asked those questions then I might be fool for 5 minutes but now I will miss those 5 minutes for my entire life.

Suddenly sir changed his topic and explained how we will be conducting our class for next 4 months. It was always fascinating to see how our lecturer speaks. He always changes his pattern of speaking along with the expression, I never feel monotonous in his class. He always has smile in his face.

After a while lecturer told us about thinking. Thinking has to be critical. Thinking is an art and it can be learned. It was started with the philosophy of Socrates, Pluto and eventually their followers. He informed that Socrates way of thinking is different and it is called as logical reasoning. Sir told that Socrates never believed on what people has said but he always believed on those things which as proof. Before our first lecture on critical thinking I have heard about Socrates and I didn’t knew who was he and what has his contribution. But after the first class of critical thinking I admire him as a philosopher. He is the modern building block of critical thinking. Socrates looked ugly but his way of thinking was different then other, he had answer for every questions. Slowly he was becoming against the priest when become the reason for his death. However, few people believed that he was already enlighten when he as at his death bed because he wasn’t afraid of death. So, this is how Socrates was introduced me through my critical thinking lecturer.

After that we had break for half an hour, I looked at everyone they were busy at having a cup of tea and gossiping but I was still thinking about Socrates and this way of thinking. What if Socrates is born, what is Gautam Buddha was born now, what if, if I am Buddha.
