A shocking incident took at least 11 lives at Pengeri, a small town in Upper Assam's Tinsukia district, at noon yesterday. It is reported that when police fired bullets in the air to disperse protesters at the area, one of the bullets hit a high-tension wire which fell on the demonstrators and killed so many people. Several others were also injured in the incident, 18 of whom have been shifted to Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) in neighbouring Dibrugarh district. The condition of those admitted there is also serious. An inquiry has been ordered into the incident.
