Pakistan in US-India strategic vision

Posted on at

The joint statement between the US and India, issued on January 25, 2015 on the occasion of the visit of President Barack Obama India, among other things, says: "The President and the Prime Minister also stressed the importance of economic connectivity and transport between central and south Asia and the need to promote a secure, stable and prosperous Afghanistan as part of a secure, stable and prosperous region. Reaffirming the importance of strategic partnerships with Afghanistan, leaders they affirmed the importance of a, inclusive, sovereign and democratic Afghanistan and agreed to convene new high-level consultations on Afghanistan in the near future sustainable political order. "Since India occupies a central position in South Asia, US - Declaration of India means that India should be provided "economic connectivity and transport" with republics of Central Asia. Obviously the idea is to provide this connectivity through Pakistani territory. At the same time, the Declaration of the US-India talks about the two countries 'strategic partnership' with Afghanistan, implying that India is to have a permanent role in Afghanistan even after removal of most of the forces ISAF and NATO.

Pakistan and India US STRATEGIC VISION

Ignoring the concerns of Pakistan with the threat posed by Pakistan Tehrik-i -Taliban in which the elements according to the pro-Indian reports have made the payment, and the apparent role of India in fomenting trouble in Balochistan, US has teamed up with India in reaffirming "the need for a joint and concerted efforts to disrupt entities such as Lashkar-e-Tayyiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad, D Company and the Haqqani Network..." And reiterating "called Pakistan to bring the perpetrators of the November 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai to justice "The idea seems to be to pressure Pakistan to undergo regional hegemony in India and play a secondary role in the US -. India strategic vision for the region. Although Pakistan is able to serve as an economic corridor for Central Asian Republics through Afghanistan, any servile state even remotely India can never be accepted. Providing access to India to Afghanistan and beyond through Pakistani territory has serious implications for the security of Pakistan in the current circumstances.

Pakistan can not ignore India's activities in Afghanistan and its nexus reported with the TTP and insurgents in Baluchistan. It is time for Pakistan expressed its concerns to the US and focused more on China, a country that has a vital interest in the region and has invested heavily in Gwadar port. Pakistan should focus on accelerating progress on mega projects and infrastructure development in Balochistan in which China has interests. The objective of Pakistan must be to serve as economic corridor not only for Central Asia, but the independent western region of China's involvement in India. Pakistan is a member of ECO and enjoys observer status in the SCO, the two multilateral platforms with the Republics of Central Asia as members and with enormous potential to promote economic development. Meanwhile, Pakistan must remain ready to resume the composite dialogue with India without compromising principles.
