Protection of Women

No longer the weaker sex, women can protect themselves

The biggest misconception in many countries is that a woman cannot protect herself . The second biggest misconception is that violence against women happens in poor sections of society and underdeveloped countries. However, the fact is that many people think that the male gender is still the dominant force. As a result, unless it is someone they know, most men will look the other way when it comes to abusive behaviour towards women. This disturbing trend needs to be broken at any cost. Yes, it is true that women need to learn how to defend themselves. But the truth is also that as a society we have to lend them a helping hand.

To start with, every woman has to be equipped with basic tools like self-defence training and pepper sprays. From a young age, they should be educated on what proper behaviour is and what is not. As a girl attains puberty, she should be informed about what constitutes acceptable behaviour from boys and what should be reported. However, we need to remember that protection does not mean stifling their growth. Instead, it means that allowing them to grow on their conditions and not living in fear at all times.
