Rice stalks and its lesson

God resists the proud but bestows His favor on the lowly--- James 4:6

Rice is the staple food for us Filipinos. Maybe more Asian countries too. A meal without "kanin" (rice) might be considered incomplete. But before it will be on our tables, rice is grown by farmers. And I read a story about rice or its stalks rather shared by a well-known priest. Here is the story.

One day, a priest was walking with an old farmer guide during his village mission  trip in a province in northern Philippines. As they passed by the rice fields, the priest pointed the tall rice stalks that swayed with the wind. He told the farmer how bountiful the harvest would be that year. The farmer, without even looking at the rice stalks said, "those rice stalks that stand tall and straight are empty and have nothing. It is those that bent and lowly are heavy with grain.

Hope that we remain humble whatever we have, or how much we have.
