ST. AUGUSTINE DE HIPPO

Posted on at

St. Augustine de Hippo is the Patron Saint of the brewers and in our village as well. He is the brewer’s saint because of his conversion from a former life of loose living, which included parties, entertainment, and worldly ambitions. His complete turnaround and conversion has been an inspiration to many who struggle with a particular vice or habit they long to break. He is also called the “Doctor of the Church”.

In 1896, he became the patron saint in our chapel. Every 28th day of August, we celebrate his festivity. Last August 21, 2015, the officials of the association opened the  chapel museum. These are memorabilia’s of the Saint. The photos below are some of the olden mementos. Mostly it’s the saint’s old clothing and capes. You can also see photos of one of the fiesta masses held in the chapel and the solemn blessing of the chapel as well.

For this year, the officials started the celebration with the dawn procession as an opening for the feast.

On the feast day itself a consecrated mass was celebrated at 3pm. Despite all the political controversies in the village, we unite as one.

This is one of the days that I always look forward to celebrate, where family, relatives and friends gather together to celebrate as a tradition and as Christians.
