The Evolution of Time Lapse

A time lapse of clouds passing by used to capture an internet viewers attention as they watched in amazement.  Clips were praised for the unique aesthetic they brought against traditional videos.

Very soon however; familiarity crushed the norm and general time lapse footage of clouds and trees soon ceased to appeal to anyone.  Everyone and their mom had seen these videos and knew how to shoot one on their Time Lapse iPhone app.

The next standard we see in Time Lapse is the use of movement within the time lapse.  This is achieved by using a motorized slider or being extremely patient with a manual slider.  This new norm created a visual element that set itself apart from a general tripod time lapse.  However, these too are becoming the norm.

We're entering a new level of time lapse.  I'm excited to see what new ideas will come in the future- but here are a few that have struck within the last few days!
