Today is Poncheeshe Boishakh in Bengali calendar, the birth day of Nobel laureate and Great Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore. He had no formal education at school or college but he was the first Nobel laureate from not only India but also the whole of Asia. He was also the first non-European to be awarded the Nobel Prize. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913 with his book Gitanjali, Song Offerings. It is a great day in both India and Bangladesh because national anthems of both the countries were composed by this great Bengali poet. Apart from being a great poet, he was a great philosopher, novelist, music composer and painter. His writing spanned many genres including novel, play, poem, song, essay, travelogue and short stories.
