Vimeo is a video sharing service site that allows users to upload, share, and watch videosVimeo was created by Jake Lodwick and Zach Klein in November 2004.

Vimeo was made in November 2004 by Jake Lodwick and Zach Klein, who eventually left the company in 2007.  The term Vimeo was created by Lodwick, as a play on words from the video and me. Vimeo is an anagram of the word movie.  IAC / InterActiveCorp bought Vimeo in August 2006, as part of the acquisition of Connected Ventures.  In January 2009, Dae Mellencamp joining IAC as General Manager of Vimeo. He worked as Vimeo CEO until March 19, 2012 when Kerry Trainor joined to Vimeo as CEO.  In September 2013, the system searches Vimeo using Google Analytics to get a better result  and the Firefox and Chrome browser users can not search for videos on Vimeo without disable privacy protection on their browsers.

On December 2013, Vimeo obtain 100 million visitors per month and more than 22 million registered users.  Half of the Vimeo site visitors are mobile phone users.  Users Vimeo average of indie filmmakers and fans.  Not infrequently, some top celebrities also wear Vimeo. In 2009, Britney Spears wore as a storage Vimeo music video entitled "Radar". [Need citation needed] The White House also send videos to Vimeo press release.

On July 21, 2008, Vimeo announced that the site is no longer allowed to upload themed video games.  While the themed video games that have been there before, removed on 1 September 2008.

On January 9, 2014, Vimeo blocked by court orders in Turkey, for no apparent reason.

In May 2014, Tifatul Sembiring, Minister of Telecommunications and Information tweeted from his personal account and stated Vimeo will be blocked. Based on the results of verification of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, found in some categories Vimeo website leading to pornographic content. To date, the majority of internet service providers and mobile operators still block sites Vimeo so inaccessible in Indonesia.
