Volunteering in Manchester, Here I go!!

Posted on at

So guys,

Stepping away from FourFingers and the constant mind-state of work and money I thought I'd share something else I'm hoping to get involved in!

I've always had a bit of an urge inside me to do some community stuff, help people out, get arty and farty for non-profit means. So, recently I signed up to Manchester's prime volunteering centre and met up with a bubbly, also arty woman, who interestingly enough was a production runner for Granada TV here in Manchester...Anyway, she rummaged through my brain of muddled up interests and suggested some projects I could get involved in.

One of these is called 'Start in Salford', an art studio not too far away which encourages emotional wellbeing and recovery through creative arts.

The great thing about it is, there seems to be such a huge range of projects to get stuck in with and one of these include filmmaking....  (However, I've also decided I'm going to get mucky with paint, splintered with woodwork, snappy with photography and brainy with writing...)

It would be a great feeling if I can pull a bunch of unlikely folk together and make a short film. I think I'd also be very comfy with the mindset that it doesn't have to be perfect, the real achievement would be getting a contribution from people who probably would have never considered it - I'll still avoid crash zooms though...that's just icky...

Wish me luck guys! They'll probably be teaching me....

I make short films for a hobby! Despite 7 years studying towards a professional career in the medium I have found freedom of film-making and self expression doesn't come with a pay check...I have a huge interest in Youth/Community development that I like to blog, photograph and film :)
