Walk Tall: A Short Documentary by Harry Fisher

Walk Tall is a short documentary that chronicles the life of Valerie Fisher, a paraplegic of four from Shrewsbury who’d been in a serious horse riding accident and as a result, suffered a spinal cord injury. Told the chances of her walking again were very slim, she became more determined than ever and not give up hope. We follow her in the steps she takes to pursue her dream of walking once more.

This is a film that's been a tremendously exciting learning curve for me over the past few months. It's been very challenging to tackle a topic so personal to me and my family but I strongly feel that this film does my mother's story justice.

I've had this idea for a documentary for over a year and a half now and several times I almost went forward with it but I always got put off. I think that was due to my own fear of not being ready for it. Over the year though I've come a long way and developed my skills even further as a film maker and I feel like if I'd made this last year the outcome would be completely different to what it is now.

The trickiest thing about this film was the edit. There's so much archive footage and scenes I've shot and collected together over the years it was difficult trying to trim it all down without sacrificing the emotional impact and the journey that it's become for her.

Overall I am super pleased with the final outcome and I hope everyone who watches it does too.
