Watch out! Smoking in Public Places Can Cause Social Damage

Jakarta, lack of awareness and lack of strict regulation on No Smoking Area (KTR) made still more people who smoke in public places. Besides harmful to the health of smokers and the people around it, smoking in public places it can provide social damage.

Fuad Baradja, Smoking Control Activists of the National Commission on Tobacco Control (Komnas PT) presents two people who are exposed to the dangers of smoking. Both are damage to health and social damage, especially in young children.

"People who smoke in public places will be seen by other people, not rule by children. It can make children tend to imitate to smoke," Fuad said when interviewed at campaign events Warning No Tobacco Day in Lotte Shopping Avenue, such as written on Monday (01/06/2015).

Fuad also added that should adults smoke in a responsible manner that does not interfere with other people's health and even does not affect children's behavior.

Dr Priyo Sidipratomo Sp.Rad (K), Chairman of Komnas PT also mentions other social damage from cigarettes. "Being a smoker is the gate to become a drug addict," he added.

It is also approved by Fuad. "Basically cigarettes can be regarded as an addictive substance, because users become addicted. Usually, the addict will be more likely to try drugs. For example ranging from tried smoking marijuana, and other drug types," he said.

In addition to triggering social damage, exposure to cigarette smoke is good for active smokers and passive smokers are equally proven to cause heart disease, cancer, and other diseases. Exposure to second hand smoke for 30 minutes was able to make the toxins in cigarette smoke enter the blood stream and cause blood clots that raise the risk of heart and stroke.
