In India, the relation between a mother -in-law and her daughter-in-law is not usually good; in most of the cases they are at daggers drawn to each other. But the recent incident in Delhi proves that there are exceptions to this rule. It is reported that a 65-year-old woman from Delhi saved the life of her daughter-in-law by donating one of her kidneys when the patient's mother backed out at the last moment. It is learnt that the 36-year-old housewife from Uttam Nagar in West Delhi had been suffering from frequent bouts of vomiting and sudden weight loss when she underwent some medical investigations which revealed that she was suffering from renal failure. A team of doctors suggested renal transplant for her. However, her family was faced with the biggest challenge to find a first degree donor. Finally her mother agreed for kidney donation. All investigations were completed but just before the transplant, her mother refused to give her kidney. At this point, her mother-in-law came forward which nobody expected. After examining both of them, the doctors found the mother-in-law fit to donate her kidney to her daughter-in-law.  The transplant surgery was performed on June 23 and now both the donor and the recipient are doing fine.  Thus the mother-in-law set an example which is rarely expected in India.
