Will this put an end to the abortion debate forever?!

Does Every Baby Want to be Born?

The religious right, and liberal left have been fighting over abortion and women’s rights since Roe V. Wade.  Every person has taken a stance, some fighting for the rights of the mother, others for the unborn child.

Some argue that the pregnant mothers have a voice, while the unborn children are caught in the selfish, murderous crosshairs of single mothers too disadvantaged to afford Plan B.

That has all changed.

Last week, researchers at the New Mexico Institutes for Scientific Research unveiled some ground breaking research into giving unborn children a voice, and hopefully a chance.

New Mexico is only one of a handful of states in the United States that allows unrestricted late trimester abortions.

Setting up camp, the researchers took volunteers from the community, offering to offset the cost of voluntary abortions beyond those who were 16 weeks pregnant.

“We set up shop outside of Walmarts in the region and talked to every woman that seemed to look pregnant.  We devised a questionnaire that assessed their readiness and happiness to carry the baby to term,” Dr. Denise Goldstein, one of the head researchers explained, “we found that for a lot of these mothers, the abortions they felt were so necessary were just simply not a financial option.  That’s when we decided to incentivize the program.”

The candidates came forth in droves.

“Some argue that the pregnant mothers have a voice, while the unborn children are caught in the selfish, murderous crosshairs of single mothers too disadvantaged to afford Plan B. “

“Once we added the incentives for participating, we had 52 people in the first day, 35 people the second day, and beyond that a steady 12-15 participants for every day after that,” Dr Goldstein went on to explain, “it truly was very rewarding to see this many women out to aid in this important research.”

Dr. Goldstein and her team would, using a small incision, insert electrodes into the womb to monitor brain activity in the fetus.  She showed us on a screen where the brain would light up when faced with different sounds.  Different parts of the brain would light up when different tones and reverberations would play.

She smiled as she explained, “this is how you know the baby is active and cognitive.”

With her process, she would then move down to the mother’s vagina and whisper calming things to the baby inside.

According to Dr. Goldstein, as she would whisper, the limbic system, our brain system for emotion and memory would light up on the attached monitor.

She would then ask the fetus a very important request, “do you want to be born?  Tap once with your finger if you do.”

She would speak directly into the vagina, and if the baby did not respond, she repeated the question two more times.

The results are staggering.

In the below graph you will see just how many babies actually did not want to be born.

Dr. Goldstein is unsure as to why these unborn fetuses don’t want to be born into the world.  Some stated reasons may include fear of leaving the womb, to potential domestic situations and even the current state of the global economy.

One thing is for sure, though, the women participants certainly felt a little more at ease about their abortions.
