Google and the Amazing Driverless Car

Posted on at

Recently, Google has been testing their new driverless car. The Google driverless car is a project by Google that involves developing technology for autonomous cars. The reason why this is such a big deal is because of two reasons. The first reason is because there has never been a driverless car produced that has worked so well as the Google car. The second reason is that because the cars are so safe, the US might lose over 6 billion dollars worth in traffic tickets.

So far, the Google driverless cars has driven a combined total of 700,000 miles. Within those 700,000 miles, not a single one of the cars has received a traffic/speeding ticket. The problem with this is that the majority of police revenues comes from traffic/speeding tickets. Since it is estimated that over 6 billion dollars might be lost because of the driverless car, many people are against them. However, according to NextBigFuture.com, the driverless cars could save $500 billion in the USA from avoided crashes and traffic jams and can boost city productivity by 30% of urban GDP after a few decades enabling larger and denser cities. In other words, these driverless cars will have extremely beneficial impact on not only our country's economy, but also on our environmental status as well. With this being said, I sure hope to see the driverless car on the roads to the public in the near future. Although it will most likely cost a lot of money (it takes $150,000 just to build one), it will sure save me the struggle and the stress of my driving test coming up in a few weeks.
