Posted on at

October's "31 Days of Breast Cancer Discovery" is a series of daily informative videos in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month presented in association with Beth Israel Medical Center.  Dr. Susan K. Boolbol, the Chief of Breast Surgery, discusses a various topics about how you can reduce your risk of cancer and how to get the best medical treatment if you are diagnosed with the disease.

In Day 16's video Dr. Boolbol discusses the process a women would go through when discovering a lump. The first thing they would suggest is an ultrasound. The ultrasound can help to differentiate between a cyst and a solid mass. If it is a solid mass with a few unusual features they will make the decision to have a biopsy using imagery or taking a tissue sample. These tests will determine if the solid mass is cancerous of benign.
