Agents of SHIELD S2E01

Hey everyone!

Season 2 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D premiered last week and the second episode comes out tonight! I really enjoyed last week's episode and am super excited for the new one tonight.

Last week we saw Coulson acting as the new director of S.H.I.E.L.D and he was in the zone. After the collapse of the agency because of HYDRA in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) tasks Phil Coulson with rebuilding the agency from the ground up.

We see the return of characters such as Skye, Melinda May, Fitz, Ward, and Simmons (kind of). Plus we get to see a few new characters, mostly mercenaries led by Lucy Lawless' character Hartley. I think that the new dynamic is pretty interesting but I'm not 100% sure how I feel about it.

During the episode Fitz and Simmons are only ever together in the lab. We never see any other characters interact with them. While watching the episode I was disappointed by their lack of interaction, but it was all building up to their reveal at the end. It turns out that Simmons has been gone for a while because she thought it would help Fitz recover, who suffered brain damage at the end of last season. I was not expecting at all. The reveal reminded me of The Sixth Sense or Fight Club. As someone who ships FitzSimmons I AM NOT OKAY!

The main villain of the episode was Absorbing Man who can turn his body into any material he touches. He is racing against the agents to obtain some 084 ala the tesseract. Based on the promos for tonight's episode that plot will continue. This plot also results in the death of Lucy Lawless' character, HOWEVER, I promise that that will bring her back. I don't know this for a fact but there is no way they cast Xena; Warrior Princess just so that they could kill her off. There is no way!

Now of course we have to talk about how they introduces the 084, and big bad for the season. The episode begins with Agent Peggy Carter post-ww2 going to retrieve the 084 from a Nazi camp where we are introduced to the Kraken (played by Reed Diamond) who for some reason is also in the present without having aged. As the season goes on we will probably get an explanation of that.

Anything I left out in this review/recap please leave in the comments. Do you watch the show? Who is you favorite character?
