The real and interesting facts of the river Amazon

After river Nile, Amazon is the second largest river of the world. The river flows from the different sections, covering about the 30 percent of the area of South America. The largest portion of the river in the entire South America is in Brazil. The name of the river came for the mythological character, which represents the great Greek women warrior, known as Amazons.

The Spanish soldier, Francisco de Orellana, explored the giant river in the year, 1541. It was that soldier who name the river after the great women warriors. The river originally originates from the mountains of Andes, in Peru, it flows from West to East crossing Colombia and Brazil, before it gets mixed with the Atlantic ocean.

When it comes to the broadness of Amazon, no other river can compete with it, as it is the widest river of the world. With the variety of flora and fauna, the Amazon rainforest plays a major role in balancing the eco system of the world.

The most interesting fact of the river is that, just before it submerges with the Atlantic Ocean, it  is 325 kilometers broad, and that is the reason why the river is called as the The River Sea.
