Falling for Each Other Pre Production

Posted on at

I am currently in the process of just finishing pre production on my next short, which is called ‘Falling for one another’. It’s the first short I have directed in around two years. Its funny because I actually wrote the first draft of the script two years ago just before I finished my last film. Since then I bought a Red Scarlet and this is my first time I am shooting one of my own shorts on it which is very exciting.

I am shooting on the 3rd March on a rooftop in London, we have a crew of around 11 people and 2 cast members. I am praying that the weather is going to hold up but we don’t have the best reputation for that in England.

The script is a romantic love story with a twist and follows the story of Lisa, who has gone to the top of a building with the intention of throwing herself off. In her final moments Harry, who has the same idea, interrupts her. The script has changed a lot from that first draft and the story has become much more lite hearted, not really focusing on the issue of suicide but more on relationships.

I have been doing pre-production on this film now for two months. I like to set a shoot date right at the start of a project and then this gives me something to work towards. Once I have set the date it’s easier to go back and give myself deadlines. I would love a producer to work with where I could just give the responsibility over to someone who could take care of location, props, casting, crew and so on. However this is something I have been doing on this particular short.

We are getting two Arri 2500 watt lights and as many bounce boards as we can find. We are also renting a couple of lens 24mm and 35mm to accompany my 50mm, 14-16mm and a 70-200mm. This is the first time I am going to just give the responsibility of the visuals over to my DP Anderson West. Although I have storyboarded the film and spoke to Anderson about how I want the visuals to look, on the shoot day I am going to just leave it to him. I work as a camera op so this can be difficult for me at times to leave the camera and just direct but if I trust anyone to give me a great looking film it would be Anderson.

So hopefully the shoot will go well and I will update you all accordingly :)
