Haripur is the main city of Hazara division in k.P.K .The Haripur is about 65 km from Islamabad and 35 km from Abbottabad the city lies on Karakoram Highway the haripur was founded by the Sikh general Hari Singh Nalwa in 1822 at that time haripur was the capital of hazara to 1853 he was appointed by Raja Ranjit Singh .He was the second nazim of hazara at that time haripur was surrounded by thick wall which about 4 yards and wall was 16 yards high and has four openings haripur was fort at that time which later become city police station. Hindko is main language spoken and Urdu being National language is also spoken and understood
Haripur is rich in fruits and vegetables and serves as the base market for mountainous cities like Abbott bad ,Mansehra and rest of Hazara division haripur is famous for its guavas khanpur, one of main areas of haripur ,known for its red blood oranges. Several miles away from Haripur lies the Buddhist university of Taxila to the north world largest rock- filled dam the tarbela dam and great irrigation and generation system is attached to dam there is another dam called Kanpur dam which supplies water to Islamabad and Rawalpindi the industrial area of Hattar close to Haripur another industrial complex is at out skirts of city the telephone industries of Pakistan [TIP]the biggest telephone industry of Asia located next to tip National Radio Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC)
According to survey of 2005 the population of Haripur is 803,000 12 percent is urban and rest of 88 percent is rural population Haripur has two post graduate colleges and Haripur university established in 2012
