July 16, 2010: World Team Members Train in Spain

Six members of the U.S. Team that will compete at the Senior World Championships in Tokyo from Sept. 9-13 travelled to Casteldefels, Spain to participate in a week-long international training camp that began on Sunday.

USA Judo provided funding to the team to train with athletes from more than a dozen countries, including Japan, Russsia, France, Italy, Canada and Great Britain.

U.S. athletes participating in the camp included:

* Kayla Harrison (Wakefield, Mass. / NYAC / USA Judo National Team FORCE / 78kg), three-time World Cup Champion
* Marti Malloy (San Jose, Calif. / USA Judo National Training Site at San jose State University / 57kg), 2010 El Salvador World Cup Champion
* Michael Eldred (Fruitland, Idaho / Western Idaho Judo Institute / 73kg), three-time World Cup medalist
* Garry St. Leger (Brooklyn, N.Y. / NYAC / Legrosports Starrett / 90kg), three-time Pan Am medalist
* Ann Shiraishi (San Francisco, Calif. / East Bay Judo Institute / 48kg), 2010 El Salvador World Cup medalist
* Hana Carmichael (Wakefield, Mass. / NYAC / USA Judo National Team FORCE / 57kg), 2010 El Salvador World Cup medalist
