The world Master's Judo Championship was just held in Frankfurt , Germany and the club was l represented. Master's Competition is exploding in all sports where older athletics who still have the desire to train and compete can do so within their age. Frankfurt had over 1200 competitors from all the continents and took a full 5 days to conclude.
Representing the club was Taki Theodoracopulos M (male) 10 age 76 to 80 , Frank Imundi M8 65 to 69, myself M7 60 to 64, and Teimoc Johnston M6 55 to 59 .
The competition was sharp in all categories but we were able to win three medals, Gold ,Silver and Bronze.
First Taki, whose spirit is an inspiration. Just to get on the mat at age 76 is something we can all tip our hats to. New to Judo, he fought well and almost pulled off a silver when he was countered in the final seconds settling for Bronze. Frank Imundi had his best competition ever. While beginning Judo in his fifties he has for years played in numerous competitions and saved his best for last winning his first metal, a silver in the World Championships. His best match was in the semi finals where he threw a tough German for wazari , half point , then pinned him to the mat for the other half point and a place in the finals where he lost to a strong Russian but made an impressive showing. Teimoc was simply great. His first three matches not lasting 30 seconds each, Teimoc throwing for full points ending each Match quickly. While the Russian in the finals was tougher Teimoc still dominated scoring twice for an easy win and the gold . As for myself, my
training was strong and I expected to play well but there were days when Micky Mantle struck out 4 times and Phil Simms threw 5 interceptions. I had one of those days. But to paraphrase Hemingway, being knocked down is no shame as long as you get up, which is really the essence of sport and of our club. On Wednesday, June 1, Sensei Matsumura presented Lynn Goldberg (Nidan), Andy Blumenthal (Rokudan), and Aziz Bendriss (Rokudan) with their USJI promotion certificates.

Saratoga, NY- Olympic Judo Silver Medalist and 4x Judo Olympian Jason Morris (NYAC) was inducted into the Burnt Hills- Ballston Lake High School Athletic Hall of Fame in a ceremony at the Holiday Inn in Saratoga Springs Saturday June 11, 2011.
Morris, who also owns and operates the Jason Morris Judo Center at 584 Rt. 50 in Glenville, was one of nine athletes inducted in the inaugural class of 2011. While attending Burnt Hills Morris was a 2x NY State Wrestling Champion going undefeated (75-0) during his junior and senior years and posting a 98-4 overall record in his three varsity years. Morris also was a 2x Section 2 Champion, 3x Class "A" Champion and a High School All-American. Jason went on to Syracuse on a full scholarship where he became only the second Wrestler in Syracuse history to winthe NCAA Div. 1 National qualifying Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Championships (EIWA) as a true freshman posting a 24-8 overall record.

Morris then went 2-2 in the Nationals in Iowa City narrowly missing All American status as a Freshman. Morris earned a Silver in the 1989 EIWA's in qualifying for the Nationals (this time in Oklahoma City) where he went on to the take 5th place and earn All American status in the 167lbs weight class. In the 5th place match Morris defeated 3x All-American, 2x NCAA Finalist and NCAA Champ, Marty Morgan (Minnesota). Overall Morris posted a 63-17 record (17-3 as a So. & 22-6 as a Jr.) at Syracuse before devoting himself full time to his Judo career.
