Kollam Backwaters

Posted on at

Kollam formerly known as Dutch Quilon, lies near Thiruvananthapuram Airport. It’s one of the most beautiful place on earth in the monsoon season, but sadly most of the travelers avoid this season. It rains heavily here, but this gateway of Backwaters has its natural beauty blossoming in the winters. Apart from the rainy season, it’s the winters which makes this place feel like heaven. Tsunami of December 2004 did effect this place and its neighborhood, still it’s back and radiant as ever.

Being on the Jetty and moving through the canals covered with hyacinths. The houseboats floating on the water take you through the sightseeing of the town and the villages that come on the way. Pass through a carnage which takes you on a voyage which is completely different from others.

Kollam is near three National Highways. NH47 links Salem to Kanyakumari via Patadakal, Thrissur, Ernakulum and Alleppy. NH220 to Theni and NH208 to Thirumangalam near Madurai. Via train one can reach Kollam from Mumbai by Kanyakumari and Quilon Express and from Delhi by the Kerala Express. All trains which serve Trivandrum Central go to Quilon.
