Oops shark attack!

Posted on at

This was is a small terraced house and the owner bought the one next door in Headington in Oxford . Up till now that sounds pretty normal and it is perfectly normal until you see the roof.

This house has a shark sticking out of its roof that looks like it has been thrown into the roof.

The shark landed on the roof way back in 1986 and by August this year it was 24th on the list of most creative statues in the world!

Recently this house became available for rent which is why I noticed it. Having spotted this I realised where it was and it was on my list of things to see when next visiting my sister in Oxford.

On our way back from London on Tuesday we called in at my sister's and as she was not home till after 12 we decided to drive around to Headington to see the shark.

Even knowing that it was there i was still pretty amazed by the size of the shark on the roof. You certainly cannot miss it!

The shark was erected on the roof on the 41st anniversary of the dropping of the atomic bomb on Nagasaki. The artist who made the sculpture is John Buckley,

The shark is made from fibreglass. It is a whopping 25 feet long and weighs four hundredweight. I hope the roof structure is strong and the hole around the shark water tight!!
