According to the World Health Organization (WHO) Suicide especially within our younger community will claim one life every 40 seconds. The WHO report also went onto say that suicide should be treated as any other “major public health problem" and not shrouded in continued stigmas or taboos.
Campaigners for mental health issues including depression, and Parkinson’s have long campaigned for more education in our schools and colleges, so hopefully the grim statistics gathered by the WHO will help them bring this to fruition. thus aiding the WHO in its goal of cutting the rate of suicide by at least 10% by the year 2020.
Pointing out the fact that only 28 countries around the world has any form of national suicide prevention scheme, the WHO took 10 years to complete this study, concluding with the following grim statistics, but before reading these stats remember this. During the time it has taken you to read this far, suicide has already claimed one other life, so please act now and help the various organisations, including WHO, in their fight to save countless lives by visiting one of the links at the end of this short article.
