Things we take for granted everyday...

Posted on at

The everyday seems to pass everyone by quickly, emotionless, without a care, not knowing the purpose of everything. Today, I'm looking towards appreciating and unveiling the beauty of the everyday, especially here in Singapore. I'm presenting 2 clips about the Singapore scene and its defence against exterior threats, both promoting peace and prosperity to our nation.

This clip above features the painstaking works of photographer Keith Loutit whom has collected a time lapse collection over a period of 3 years at various iconic and not so iconic places in Singapore, unveiling the beauty of them.

The second clip above showcases what goes on behind-the-scenes of our very own Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN for short). The odds we have overcome has built a class of soldiers who overcome odds of their own in training, duties and exercises carried out on land and in the sea. Having been serving National Service (NS for short) myself, it is rigorous and regimental but we also have our light moments and we really let loose (either in the outfield, the bunks or when the sergeants suggest going to the cybercafe for nights-out to play Counter-Strike). Truly a boys-to-men experience. I'll never forget the canteen food in various camps I've visited (each known for a popular delicacy), the lieutenants who jio (local Hokkien/Fujian slang for invite) you for basketball or street soccer, the camaraderie in the random sprinting competitions with all companies regardless of rank, and the guard duties where I watch night cyclists and racing cars zoom by the long stretch of Lim Chu Kang.

While we enjoy what we have right now, never forget the men and women who put their lives on the line to help us make everyday peaceful and filled with life, not just for the older but the middle and younger generation. Singapore may seem like a tough place, a strict place, a place with many "Do"s and "Don't"s but being a Singaporean, I am proud to say this is the one place to call home and I would do my utmost to protect it anyway I can. I am aware of other opinions within and from the rest of the world but I have not been brainwashed nor have I been duped. It is indeed a place to call home, thus many foreigners want to enjoy and share in the same mysterious enigma of our peaceful and harmonious abode.

This has been DJ Pâtes, and until then, see you soon! Come, make travel plans and visit our unique island nation Singapore! You won't regret it!
