Toy train in Matheran

Matheran Toy Train goes to a small Hill Station and it is also the most beautiful Hill Station around. Matheran meaning is Jungle Head or Forest on Top and it is around 108 kms from Mumbai. It begins at Neral, the Mumbai Pune Line, it culminates at Matheran. The ride includes beautiful eye catching natural sceneries. It is a 90 minute journey which was started by Abdul Hussain, the son of Business Tycoon of Mumbai- Sir Adamjee Pheerbhoy. It was 1907 that the first journey of Matheran Toy Train took place.
The Train begins from Narel and crosses Hardal Hill, Jammapatti Station, Bhekhra Station, Mount Barry, Panorama Point, Simpson Point and reaches Matheran Bazar, its last destination. The 20kms long train, running between Neral and Matheran reaches an altitude of 2500 ft above the sea level. The train covers a maximum of 12 miles in an hour thereby allowing the passengers ample time to soak in the beauty of the surroundings. The Entire Journey takes 1 and 1/2 hr to complete. Considered the best Hill Station around after Lonavala, It is also a weekend destination from Mumbai.
