Veterinarian should perform the operation with a high degree of accuracy in order to reduce blood loss in fish weighing 80 grams.
Dr. Tristan Rich who performed the surgery told 3AW Melbourne radio station that the fish are now "has paced swim".
The vet said the 10-year-old fish are now expected to live 20 years longer.
"George has a huge tumor on the top of the head that grows slowly and began to affect the quality of life," said Dr. Rich of Lort Smith Animal Hospital.
Owner George previously given a choice between surgery or kill the fish.
"He's strong enough to attempt the operation," he said.
He added fish alive by pumping oxygenated pond water through their gills.
The vet said the surgery went well and George will soon be able to return home.
