Commercials That Repel Consumers

Posted on at

Commercials are the bane of existence for many people for the simple reason is that there seems to be a lot more of them these days and a lot less show content. However, that's what pays the bills and that's what works.

That being said, there are some commercials that I've viewed over many years, where you just wonder what the people in the company that commissioned them were thinking.

Isn't the idea of a commercial to attract consumers to your product? If you do something loud, obnoxious, and just channel changing or go to the kitchen for a snack worthy, then that's not going to work.

Also, it might be a good idea for me, the potential consumer, to come away with what product your selling. Who, what, when, why, and how is very important for advertising. If I don't know these things, then you have failed.

Some commercials are flashy and wild and end up causing an immense amount of headaches. We have no idea what you're trying to sell me. Which is a problem as you may figure out.

If your commercial is a consumer repellent, than there are a lot of problems.
