Say "NO" to Smashing Wedding Cake

Posted on at

When I'm at a wedding reception, I always get anxious when it's time for the bride and groom to cut the cake. The symbolism of each tenderly feeding some cake to their spouse is quite sweet.

What isn't sweet is the crude, more-recent custom of smearing the cake on the face of their beloved. That's what makes me anxious. Will they do that or will they behave in a dignified manner?

I'm not sure where this started, but I wish it would go away. Here's the bride with her hair carefully coiffed and perfectly made-up for this big day in her life. Then she has icing and cake crumbs all over her.

I guess they think it shows their playful side, but I think it is rude and disrespectful. What's your opinion on this?
