Trying new things

Posted on at

I'm a bit in a transitional phase of life right now, and temporarily living in one city with only a small fraction of my "things" until I can move again next summer. So, I don't have my equipment or editing system with me, but that's not stopping me from creating and trying new things. I do have a small little video camera, a pc based edit program and photoshop - so I'm going to fire it all up in the next month and try to tell the story of my past year - what has forced me into this transition - through my mythic eye. I've always been fascinated with Russian lacquer and plan to use some of those images in my next short. ...When I was in film school - way back when - we had an exchange program with Eastern Europe. For a few semesters we had the pleasure of being taught by professors and filmmakers from Poland. They told us many tales of what it was like to work under martial law and censorship in the 70's and 80's. The most important thing I took away from it was how they found ways around the censorship and limited resources. So, while my reasons are far different - I carry that spirit of creating with whatever I can find, beg, borrow, or steal, as I regroup, make this next short film, and hopefully head back into a life where I can have resources again. :)
