Why I Like Shopee More than Any Other Online Shopping App

Posted on at

So I've been posting Shopee this Shopee that here and there and you might be asking, "Why Shopee?" Well, let me tell you why I like to use Shopee. And no this is not a sponsored post. (I wish. Lol.) Anyway let me share with you the things I like about it.

♦     What is Shopee?     ♦

Shopee is a Singapore based online marketplace by the Sea Ltd. company (formerly known as Garena).

According to their About Us information:

Shopee is the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan. It is a platform tailored for the region, providing customers with an easy, secure and fast online shopping experience through strong payment and logistical support.

Sea is a leader in digital entertainment, e-commerce and digital financial services across Greater Southeast Asia.

You can also shop/sell on their website. They also have a mobile app for online shopping or selling. Depending on where you live in South East Asia, you can go to any of the country specific website or use the appropriate app.

Shopee is available in Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines and also in Taiwan.

♦     Why I Like the Shopee App     ♦

1. Easy to use and clean interface

It's very user friendly. Navigation is easy and the interface is well organized and cute. You don't even need any tutorial sometimes. Just click click click around and that's it. For me, it's way better than eBay.

Search for items you like, filter search results from lowest to highest price or vice versa. Under a product, you'll see similar item suggestions from other sellers or other items sold by the same seller.

You can also check on the current sale and promos available to save money too. Of course they also have a Help or FAQ section in case you want to know more on how to use Shopee.

For sellers though it's a bit trickier to use but it's still easy enough to go around and use basic selling features.

Aside from ease of use, the local mascot looks adorable. Haha. Look at their older discount voucher (now it's P100 discount when you use the code). Are you aware that this girly Shopee character is a tarsier? Lol. There's a male version too which you can see further below.

2. Various promos and lower priced items abound

Well, as a seller, I know it's possible to "jack up" the price and then put on a "discount" to attract more buyers. I don't remember which site it was where I found out about it but at least now you know too. It can be misleading to some but it does the trick. More people will buy something as long as it shows the word DISCOUNT or % OFF on it.

Of course there are genuine seller discounts as well where sellers show the market price and then a truly lower or discounted amount. This is possible especially when they are an official distributor or reseller. Sellers can even lower the price as much as they can to get more buyers than their competitors.

Sellers can also offer their own discount or voucher codes aside from the promo code for first time shop buyers. Here's a sample. Below is my new shop discount voucher code. It's good to use until December 2018. (I only have less than 10 items for sale so... Lol.)ecommerce_platform

Here you'll see the male tarsier mascot too. Cute right? :)

3. Free shipping and discount coins/coupons

Aside from the discounted items, you can even get much lower prices! I like Shopee because sometimes they offer FREE shipping (or vouchers) even without reaching the P500 minimum order. Of course you will have to catch the promo during certain times or days of the month. Sometimes you get free shipping for items reaching P350 total, other times it's for any amount at all!

Aside from that, there is a point reward system called Shopee coins. These can be earned when you buy from preferred sellers or when you click the daily check in at the coins rewards page. Usually one coin is equivalent to P1 discount. It can be used when you buy anything.

You can even use coins and convert it to discount vouchers! Recently they introduced discount vouchers which you can get at a lesser number of coins! For example, get a P20 off coupon for only 17 coins!

Previously they had a daily prize free coins from free tokens aside from the log in reward coins. On their latest update, they consolidated it into one system probably to prevent coins/reward abuse. Or maybe they just don't want to lose too much money from all the "freebies" they give away. Haha.

4. Various courier choices + Grab shipping integration

Another Singapore-based company, Grab, has partnered with Shopee in terms of logistics. They are now part of the delivery option choice for buyers or sellers. I haven't used this yet but if you're in a hurry to get your order, this is the fastest option. Of course it is pricier than the usual courier service. Currently they have Grab shipping promos so go try it soon. Right now, the app says either the buyer or Shopee themselves will cover the Grab delivery fee until August 31, 2018 only.

Other seller shipping options available (to me) are XPost, 2Go and JRS. Sellers also have an option to add their own courier choice. It won't be covered by the Shopee Guarantee though.

There are other couriers available on the platform like Ninja Van but those aren't showing on my end. They used to have LBC but now it's gone. Oh my.

5. Cash on Delivery (COD) option

Who wouldn't love buying online with a cash on delivery option? It's good for buyers but not much for excited or low budget sellers. Haha. The first time I got a COD order I was like, "Oh no, I have to ship it out without getting paid first!" But good thing Shopee is a reliable app. COD payments are released to sellers as soon as the delivered items are acknowledged and accepted by the buyer thru the app or website.

If you're happy with what you get then great! Just click on the confirmation button in the app and the purchase process is done!

6. Seller promotional tools and 5 FREE product boost!

As a Shopee seller you have several tools at your disposal, plus it's free to sell! No fees to list products or deductions after any sale. Oh wow!

They even have a "Shopee University" where sellers can attend seminars to learn more about selling on their platform. Unfortunately the app notice about it isn't working for me. And since I'm not a hardcore seller, I didn't bother reporting it or asking for more info. Haha.

What I like most is they have five free product boosting option for seller items. That's a big help to gain product exposure. No need to pay for it at all unlike other sites, thank you Shopee! Haha.

7. Easy switching: From buyer to seller mode and vice versa!

Wow the user-friendliness of this app is really top-notch. Kudos to the developers for making it so easy to use.

If you only like to buy stuff then that's fine. You don't need to be concerned at all. Just use it as any other app.

In case one day you decide to sell something, you can easily do so too. Just click on the selling tab and add your details. It requires you to put your info of course but it only takes several minutes to set up a store.

Apparently it also shows how long someone has been a Shopee member. Haha. When I signed up around 26 months ago, I did so in order to sell my SkinTatz temporary tattoos.

And then when I stopped selling my designs last year, what else do I do with it? Lol.

One day I just thought of buying stuff and wow it's so easy to just click items I would like to buy. Whew. Good thing I'm not rich or else. Haha.

It's only this year that I am enjoying using Shopee. As a seller, I'm also exploring the selling aspect more than before.

Anyway, my Shopee history shows I bought 8 times and sold 5 times. Mkay. I better put more items for sale then. :P Maybe.

And that's it! Those are my reasons for liking Shopee a lot.

On my next blog I will share with you some practical tips when buying and selling on Shopee. I'll probably tell you some of the issues I had with it too. Stay tuned!

If you're not a Shopee member yet, just download the app at Google Play or the App Store. Use the voucher code ARTST222 on your first purchase to get P100 discount on your order! Don't forget to use my shop voucher code in case you like something in my shop: {{POINTS1}}.
